Its a type of legal protection of someone's creation that no one else can use other than themselves, or the company in itself. There's this thing called "IP" or Intellectual Property. If you're making or buying a sprite of Pokemon sprites and then making a fangame, its illegal. And I'm here so that people can know the harsh truth behind it all. I don't like how much they're pressuring young people who love the franchise they made to delete their own passion projects that took them a long time to make. I am not here to protect Nintendo in any way. The reason why I'm using Pokemon and Nintendo as an example is because we're the RPG Maker Community and the rise of "Pokemon Clones" and/or "Pokemon Fangames" has been seen a lot of times. The example from WIRED is just an information about how these things work in court. I am here merely to shed light on why creating fangames can be destructive on the creator's life because of the cease and desist and lawsuits. I just want to start off this discussion by stating that, this post will be mostly based about Nintendo and Pokemon and I am not a lawyer.
